2018 MDIAI Educational Conference

March 26 - 28   -   Gulfport, MS

Gulfport was the place to be at this year for the annual MDIAI conference!  Fentanyl and other hazards were all around, that is how to protect yourself from those hazards.  If you were not there, you sure missed some amazing information!  The conference started off with Mick Mollica discussing how and why new synthetic drugs are dangerous as well as the causes they do to the body.  Topics also featured was how to manage and maintain a crime scene (Dan Champney), the frequency found and protections against fentanyl (Jason Gill), an overview of the FBI Next Generation Identification (Greg Scarbro), NIBIN Investigations (Felicia McIntire & Lora Hunter), how to investigate overdose-related deaths (Dr. Mark LeVaughn), and  the value of Mississippi organ donations (MORA).  Then the conference closed with something valuable for all humans, how to survive stress and ways to relieve it as taught by Tim Rutledge.   In addition to all the wonderful lectures, the conference also featured some great vendors to show the latest in crime scene technology, amazing research projects from the students at the University of Southern Mississippi, and most importantly networking across many jurisdictions.   As always the MDIAI strives to provide excellent training and start planning on joining us for our next conference in the spring of 2019.

2017 MDIAI Educational Conference

April 11 - 13   -   Hattiesburg, MS

If you missed the Mississippi Division of the International Association for Identification (MDIAI) 2017 Annual Conference, you missed a smashing good training session!  We partnered with the Forensic Student Society (FSS) at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.  The topic this year was from Crime Scene to Courtroom and began with Dr. Laura Pettler teaching Victim-Centered Death Investigation Methodology and ended with Jamie Bush, CLPE, covering Courtroom Testimony.   Along the way Crime Scene Photography, Crime Scene Reconstruction, the Collection/Documentation of Latent Prints, the Collection of Biological Samples, Interviewing /Interrogation Techniques, and Challenges in Forensic Identification were all discussed.  With amazing vendors and sponsors, we were able to provide the tools our attendees need to be more successful in their careers.  As an organization, we strive to keep progressing each year to cover relevant topics of training at our annual conferences, make sure you don’t miss our next one!
